Principles of Music Radio Formatting

"The Programming Operations Manual" was published in 1984 and was a condensation of M1 creator Steve Warren's music radio formatting systems and philosophies he'd developed during the course of his first twenty years in the business. Several thousand copies were sold to radio station owners, managers and programmers in the following two decades. Steve pulled it from the market in the early '00s after deciding it was in need of an update and re-write, something he's not yet done. This report is a compilation of several sections of that Manual. It contains a brief over-view of how modern music radio developed, blueprints for formatting and music rotations and some personal philosophy about how to do this thing well.
