Rotation Prediction – Average Turnover Chart

Well planned and consistent song rotations are a cornerstone of successful music radio. We are in the business of “playing the same songs over and over.”  For some stations, it is a few hundred songs and for others a few thousand, but all of us are playing the songs in our chosen libraries again and again. The most important thing about this is to pre-plan WHERE the songs will be scheduled the next time and the next time after that. Songs in a Hot Hits rotation will be scheduled at least once every day between the hours of 6 and 9am and the repeat plays should not be in the same hour two consecutive days.  A Recurrent or Recent Hits category may have songs being scheduled ten times a week. Each song in the group should schedule in each daypart (morning, midday, afternoon, evening, overnight) before being being re-scheduled in any one of them.

Song rotations are simple math based on two numbers. 1)  The number of songs in the category, and 2) The number of times the category is formatted during the week.  As you’ll see in the video, adding or removing only a few songs from a category will have a significant on song rotation placement.  This rotation prediction chart is one of the most important tools in MusicONE.
